September 20, 2011

Wow has this summer gone by fast!!!! Being the avid winter/snow fan that I am, this is very good for me!  This was probably the busiest summer I've had in a few years.  I am up to about 15 appointments a week and most of them are now return clients!  Super happy I decided to go with the " Stressful Economy " promo, a lot of my clients really appreciate it.  For those who might need a reminder as to what that is, I am offering $40 hour sessions to anyone who makes an appointment my first year of business....  this year. They will be grandfathered into that price and when they go up to regular prices in 2012 they keep the promo price, ( for life!!)

As mentioned before I also received some continuing ed. on the topic of pain.  This has proven to be one of the most valuable classes so far.  In understanding pain and how it works I have become more effective in treating it and also explaining it so that my clients can be more mindful of their own conditions.  I am also starting to dabble in the benefits of stretching during sessions and have a guinea pig lined up so that I can offer more effective treatments for pain!  The vast majority of my clients are now coming in for my therapeutic sessions which last 35-45 minutes.  During the first full body massage I assess my clients situation through their own complaints and what I feel in the muscles during the massage.  We then set up a therapy session inwhich I focus only on the area in pain and it's surrounding and supporting muscles.  I palpate each muscle and work on all the trigger points in the area.  The most common sessions I have are for the sciatic pain pattern and shoulder/neck region.  I have had quite a bit of success with both treatments.  I was recently able to release a clients sciatic nerve that was impinged at the sacral region.  Her toes have been numb for almost a year and she has had full feeling for the last 2 weeks!!!  I am working right now with an occipital impingement and going to be starting sessions for thoracic outlet syndrome!!! I absolutely love it when a client comes back for their next session and talks about how great they feel!

Well I am coming up on my first year of practice and am a still loving this field to pieces!  There is nothing better or more fullfilling in life than helping someone in pain.  Thank you to all my blog followers and all my clients!  Here is to an even more productive second year!!

April 27, 2011

WOOHOO!!!!  I told you guys I was pretty cruddy at computer dilios!  My hubby just let me know that I haven't posted anything since Dec.!  I have been pretty busy with all the holidays and kids out of school and o ya business!  Hope everyone had a great Christmas/New Year and all the others since.  I sure did!  Even had a visit from my mother who was more than willing to help out with my Deep Tissue practices.  She approved BTW.  So that is what I'm doing now.  Hope to have certificate in a couple weeks.  My next adventure is Musculoskeletal Treatment ( the mystery of pain).   I was very excited to get this one as every ounce of my being is really wanting to help people in chronic pain...  Amazingly enough the universe has caught onto this because most of my regular clinients are in chronic pain.  So I have decided to make this my specialty.  That doesn't mean I can't give one heck of a relaxing massage too though!  However I am definetly being pulled in this direction.

As I said before anyone who comes in gets their first hour massage for only $25.  I do have a new " Stressful Economy" special going on now also.  Anyone who comes in for a massage in 2011 will get hour massages for $40 and also be grandfathered into that price! So that means any clients this year will stay at $40 an hour ( for hour massage only) for life!!!!  In 2012 that price goes up to $50.

Ok then, hopefully I will be more diligent at blogging, but just in case!  Have a happy whatever holiday comes our way until my next blog!

December 19, 2010

So I really didn't think I had fallen that far behind on my blog updates, however, a client let me know the other day that I hadn't updated since Nov. something.  Which was both embarrassing and exciting at the same time.  That means ya'll are checking out the blog! WOOHOO!!  So business is going great! Slow week at beginning of Dec. but I decided that it was a gift since I had a cold and was really pooped.  I went to a seminar on Dec. 8th and got certified for Orthopedic neck and shoulder massage.  Great for people who suffer from headaches and frozen shoulder, even got some info on carpal tunnel.  Had a blast hanging with my school mates again! Last week was busy, this week is not so busy. But I really believe that you get what you need at that time and I have a lot going on this week outside of work so "Que sera, sera."  (but that doesn't mean I won't make time for appts! )  and yes I was definetly singing that when I typed it!  come on everybody, " Que sera, sera.  Whatever will be, will be ".  They really need to put music notes on the keyboards so I can let you know when I'm singing it.  A lot of things sound so much better sung! I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas  and let's take a step toward well!

November 18, 2010

Wow!!! and I mean WOW!!!!  I am so excited about all the calls I am getting! I have already reached my 1 year goal and doubled it in only 2 weeks! I realize that I have a great deal being advertised right now ( $25 for your first full body massage ) but I still did not expect this kind of response.  I literally went from completely open calendar and no problem if I left my phone at home or in the car to a very full schedule and I have to take that schedule book and my phone with me everywhere I go!!!!  I got 2 calls while I was at the bowling alley Wed. for hubbies bowl night! I think a lot of my excitement comes from being able to do what I love the most, and that is to make people feel good and help ease their pain or tension.  This is what I am all about. When I started school one of the first questions asked of us was why we chose Massage Therapy. My answer was simple, I have to have a job that adds value to other peoples lives. I am not and never have been happy just working to fill someones pockets. I need meaning, I need to be able to make a difference somewhere and I think I found it. I have 12 appointments this week and every morning I wake up and I'm exhausted thinking how am I going to be able to go in today and massage for a few hours when I can't even muster up the strength to pick up my coffee mug.  I get to the shop and I'm still tired, still dragging and then it happens. My client comes in and all the aches and pains and exhaustion just disappear. Gone. It stays gone until I walk out that door to go home. What a wonderful feeling when the massage is over and they come out looking completely relaxed with that peaceful smile on their face.  This is a job that makes it easy for me to sleep at night.  I am truelly blessed. Thank you supporters and new clients ( hopefully returning ones! )  Lets take a step towards well!!

Nov. 14, 2010

Wow!!!  What a week!  Five clients and 3 more appointments for next week! I know that sounds like no big deal, but, it was a lot more than I expected.  Boy are my arms sore..  They feel like I've been holding them straight out for 10 hours.  I love it!  Been sweatin like a marathon runner so hopefully I will sweat myself down a lil.  Anyhow, I have 5 more ads going out over the next 3 months and hopefully will get some call backs from the ones I've had already.  Long live the Anti-Spa Revolution!!!!  Nite all and thanks for the support and good thoughts.

Oct. 28, 2010

Had my first client from the ads today!!!  Found out that I'm not as prepared as I thought I was, still need to get a move on my menus and flyers..  I am absolutely loving this colder weather!  Especially after the massage and having to keep the room warm enough for the client.  It was super refreshing to walk out and hit that glorious wall of cold.  Anyhow, Cam gave a great idea for more advertising and I think in about a month I'm going to do it.  She said I should write to Phil Luciano a reporter for the local paper and invite him in for a cut and a massage and of course a write up on the "Movement!"  I told her we are going to have a great Man Spa, but we both agreed not to call it that for obvious reasons, teeheehee. Also because women definitly need to come in for massages.  Have a great night all, my little one's fever went up tonite so looks like I will be home tomorrow.. Stay well and send the "Movement" some positive juju...

Oct. 27, 2010

Had a productive day today, although not at the shop necessarily!   I did get my cabinet organized and ordered some more coupon ads.  So I officially have ads through Jan. 2011 going out in 5 papers!  WOOHOO.  I'm getting excited, I have a real good feeling about this, especially since I was just jokin with Cam about getting my license and moving in!  That was until CAT gave me the boot.  Anyhow this all came together to smoothly for me not to think that we are going to be a great success in the Barber/Massage business. Will post some pics this weekend hopefully.  Thank you to my 3 new followers!!!  Have a great night...

Oct. 26, 2010

Went to the shop today and hung with Cam..  No business, but I can't have high expectations, I know these things take time and patience.  We have an ad running in the guides for all the surrounding towns that starts today and I am going to have some coupons in the local paper next month.  Hope to get my flyers out soon and that will help also..  I give a discount for veterans, active military, police officers, fire fighters, teachers and disability recipients.  $40 for a full hour massage, so if you know anyone in need send em my way, you get a discount for referrals!!!

Oct. 25, 2010

Hi everyone!  I am new to this blog stuff and most of you that know me well enough know that with computer stuff it doesn't matter if I'm old at it, I'm still pretty bad at it!  That's why I have always worked in fields that don't require a whole lot of computer hooplah. Anyhow my wonderful sister-n-law Cam set this up for me and became my first follower!  WOOHOO I have a follower!  Even though I have done a real sucky job following hers.  But the truth is these things scare the dickens out of me.  The reason for my blog of course is to get the word out on my new business.  I received my license in Therapeutic Massage over the summer and decided not to go the spa way but to rent the spare room in Camila's Barber Shop, thank you to Dan Davidson the building owner for allowing me to rennovate and make it a functioning massage room.  Cam and I are officially starting the " Anti-Spa," movement.  Cam is a true blue barber. Mens cuts only, no frills ( other than the super fantastic straight razor shaving station she has! ) She cuts womens hair as long as you want a mans cut!  I am a Massage Therapist, no wraps or scrubs, beauty treatments or pedicures.  I want to help your aches and pains, relax your muscles and brain, relieve your stress and help you take a step towards well.
